Finlandia

A Finnish nationalist work by Jean Sibelius written at a time when the Grand Duchy of Finland was chafing under the dictatorship of Czarist Russia. The work was attributed to the rallying of the Finnish people and their eventual freedom. This video was made for entertaiment purposes and does not reflect a completely accurate historical timeline. Please enjoy it with that in mind.

Finlandia

Finlandia hymni - Ylioppilaskunnan laulajat Lyrics: Oi Suomi, katso, sinun pÀivÀs' koittaa, yön uhka karkoitettu on jo pois, ja aamun kiuru kirkkaudessa soittaa kuin itse taivahan kansi sois'. Yön vallat aamun valkeus jo voittaa, sun pÀivÀs' koittaa, oi synnyinmaa. Oi nouse, Suomi, nosta korkealle pÀÀs' seppelöimÀ suurten muistojen, oi nouse, Suomi, nÀytit maailmalle sa ettÀ karkoitit orjuuden ja ettet taipunut sa sorron alle, on aamus' alkanut, synnyinmaa. In english: O, Finland, behold, your day is dawning, The threat of night has been banished away, And the lark of morning in the brightness sings, As though the very firmament would sing. The powers of the night are vanquished by the morning light, Your day is dawning, O land of birth. O, rise, Finland, raise up high Your head, wreathed with great memories. O, rise, Finland, you showed to the world That you drove away the slavery, And that you did not bend under oppression, Your day is dawning, O land of birth.

Jean Sibelius - Finlandia

Genius guy. Love this piece. London Symphony Orchestra. Grew up hearing Finlandia, but didnt understand its real meaning until I spent some time abroad. For most Finns this is sacred stuff. TomBarristerX commented: "I finally tracked this down. This is indeed the London Symphony, and the conductor is Philip Gibson. It was recorded in 1991. Maestro Gibson has over four decades of experience as a violinist, conductor, and teacher. He has appeared frequently on BBC broadcasts and has recorded frequently. Mr. Gibson is currently the music director of the Barnet Symphony, an amateur group in London. This workï»ż appears on the ABM CD "Scenes and Images". (Thanks for clearing that up).

Jean Sibelius - Finlandia Op.26

One of my favourite pieces of classical music. Written in 1899 as a covert protest against Russian censorship it depicts various episodes in Finnish history, Finlandia is the seventh and last part. It is a rousing and thrilling unofficial national anthem. Performed by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Neeme Jarvi.

Jean Sibelius, Finlandia performed by Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Vasily Petrenko

RLPO play Jean Sibelius masterpiece Finlandia JEAN SIBELIUS Finlandia Vasily Petrenko conductor One of the great late-Romantic composers, who single handedly placed Finland on the musical map. And theres nothing more Finnish than Sibeliuss Finlandia. Watch the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra tackle this Finnish masterpiece, performed at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall in November 2009. Sibelius originally wrote this for a scenic piece called Finland Awakes, which was presented at the Swedish Theatre in Helsinki in protest against the drastic suppression of political freedom by Finlands Russian masters in the February Manifesto of 1899. The atmosphere of oppression would have been palpable enough for those who heard the piece, if not, the allusion to Emil Genetzs well-known song HerÀÀ Suomi! (Arise, Finland!) and the increasingly triumphant mood of the work can have left no doubt in the Finnish mind as to what the message was meant to be. If youve seen The Hunt for Red October or Die Hard 2 youll know to get the big guns primed when Finlandia pops up; this thing could go nuclear

Be Still My Soul performed by The Choir Of Paisley Abbey from the album, Be Still My Soul- The Ultimate Hymns Collection. Taken from the Finlandia Hymn (in Finnish Finlandia-hymni) refers to a serene hymn-like section of the patriotic symphonic poem Finlandia, written in 1899 and 1900 by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. It was later re-worked by the composer into a stand-alone piece. Other words commonly sung to the same melody include six Christian hymns (Be Still, My Soul, I Sought the Lord, and Afterward I Knew, We Rest on Thee, A Christian Home, and This Is My Song, I then shall live), Gweddi dros Gymru or A Prayer for Wales (a national song of Wales), Ambrosian Oaks (alma mater of St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa), and Land of the Rising Sun (national anthem of the short-lived African state of Biafra).

This song was sponsored by my YouTube friend V. Thank you for introducing me to this beautiful tune and for your support. --- ABOUT THIS PIECE --- The Finlandia Hymn (in Finnish Finlandia-hymni) refers to a serene hymn-like section of the patriotic symphonic poem Finlandia, written in 1899 and 1900 by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. There have been numerous suggestions that the Finlandia Hymn should become the national anthem of Finland, but Maamme is the de facto national anthem. Other words commonly sung to the same melody include six Christian hymns (Be Still, My Soul; I Sought the Lord; We Rest on Thee; A Christian Home; This Is My Song; and I Then Shall Live), Gweddi dros Gymru or A Prayer for Wales (a national song of Wales), Ambrosian Oaks (the alma mater of St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa), and Land of the Rising Sun (the national anthem of the short-lived African state of Biafra). --- LYRICS --- This is my song, O God of all the nations, a song of peace for lands afar and mine; this is my home, the country where my heart is; here are my hopes, my dreams, my holy shrine: but other hearts ...
