Granados: Spanish dance No.2 (Oriental) - Evangelos & Liza guitar duo

The superb concerts of Evangelos Assimakopoulos and his wife Liza Zoe in Europe, United States and Canada, have made them one of the most highly regarded duo guitarists in the world today. Not only have the two Greek musicians been acclaimed by many newspapers of repute, including the New York times, Daily Telegraph, Paris Matin, Chicago Sun and Los Angeles Times, but they also earned the esteem of the great Andrés Segovia himself, who wrote of them: "Since Fate cruelly deprived us of Presti-Lagoya, I no longer had the pleasure of listening to any similar duo. But lately, when the talented Greek guitarists Evangelos and Liza played for me, I felt complete satisfaction and enjoyment. I cordially wish Evangelos and Liza to conquer the high esteem of the public as they have conquered mine!" They both began their studies of the guitar in 1953 at the National Conservatory of Athens under Dimitris Fampas. After receiving first prizes "with excellence" upon graduating, they shared the first two prizes in the International Competition in Naples, Italy. For four consecutive periods they were awarded scholarships to study with the Presti-Lagoya duo in France and with Andrés Segovia in Spain. Shortly after, they became professors at the National Conservatory in Athens. Since their arrival on the international scene in 1967, Evangelos and Liza have carried out extensive tours all over the world and given hundreds of recitals at some of the most famous concert halls, including ...

Greek finance minister: We have a new government of national unity

The Greek finance minister, Evangelos Venizelos, on Monday told journalists waiting outside the European Council that Greece has a new government of national unity. He also highlighted that the new political situation in the Hellenic country is the "proof" of their "national capacity" to implement the rescue package agreed during the Eurozone summit.

Evangelos Venizelos: Greece has 'strong will' to implement austerity programme

Evangelos Venizelos, appointed last week as the new Greek finance minister, on Sunday arrived at the meeting of Euro finance ministers in Luxembourg, delivering his first statement as finance minister to the European press. Asking if Greece was going bankrupt, Venizelos, who was Defence Minister until last week, said that Greece has 'a strong will' to implement the austerity programme as demanded by the EU and the IMF. Venizelos, who challenged Papandreou for leadership of the party in 2007, may ensure the unity needed to approve the new package and a confidence vote in the government due next week. The appointment of the 54-year-old Venizelos, also named deputy premier, is seen as a key step in maintaining a fragile peace with the PASOK socialist party.

A nomad. In the original sense. Greek Nομάς. A 'hunter gatherer', not of plants, nor game. A nomadic learner, and teacher. A peripatetic idea labourer. Now in my 45th year of university teaching, across four continents and many subjects. Became interested in creativity while researching bilingualism, and later when working with Gregory Bateson in Hawaii. At about the same time, fascinated by systemic change as manifested in language, individuals and human groups, and with the mechanisms that bring it about.
