Part One of a presentation introducing Focusing and the 'felt sense' by philosopher and psychologist, Eugene Gendlin Ph.D. Focusing is more than being in touch with your feelings and different from body work. Focusing occurs exactly at the interface of body-mind. It consists of specific steps for getting a body sense of how you are in a particular life situation. The body sense is unclear and vague at first, but if you pay attention it will open up into words or images and you experience a felt shift in your body. In the process of Focusing, one experiences a physical change in the way that the issue is being lived in the body. We learn to live in a deeper place than just thoughts or feelings. First performance: Malyi Theatre, Moscow, 1879. Eugene Onegin is a well-known example of lyric opera; the libretto very closely follows Pushkin's original, retaining much of his poetry, to which Tchaikovsky adds music of a dramatic nature. The story concerns a selfish hero who lives to regret his blasé rejection of a young woman's love and his careless incitement of a fatal duel with his best friend. There are a several recordings of it, and it is regularly performed. Act 2 Scene 1: The ballroom of the Larin house Tatyana's name-day party. Onegin is irritated with the country people who gossip about him and Tatyana, and with Lensky for persuading him to come. He decides to revenge himself by dancing and flirting with Olga. Lensky becomes extremely jealous. Olga is insensitive to her fiancé and apparently attracted to Onegin. There is a diversion, while a French neighbour called Monsieur Triquet (tenor) sings some couplets in honour of Tatyana, after which the quarrel becomes more intense. This short film by Eugene Skeef shows 4 Igbo women from Nigeria demonstrating the technique of making the udu, a clay pot drum. The udu was invented by the Igbo and it is traditionally a women's ceremonial instrument. The word udu means clay pot in the Igbo language and this gentle instrument induces a sense of peace when played. Eugene initiated the udu project through his charity Umoya Creations a few years ago. The project is ongoing and takes as its inspiration the desire to support initiatives in different parts of the world where indigenous peoples begin to take control of their intellectual and cultural property rights.
