MEET KATHRYN Kathryn began her training in Augusta, Georgia where she was part of the performing companies at Augusta West Dance Studio and also trained at the Augusta Ballet School. In her junior year of high school she joined the Tremaine Apprentice Company where she had the opportunity to travel around the country to perform and assist with the convention.In late 2008, after securing her first professional role as a supporting dancer in the FAME remake, Kathryn packed her bags and moved to Los Angeles. After concluding filming for FAME, she went right back to training, focusing her time on every style in her craft.As she began to settle into the Los Angeles area, training and auditioning began to open doors for her and presented her with the opportunity to perform with choreographers such as Doug Caldwell, Joelle Martinec, Nichelle Bane, Lillian Manansala, and Mecca Vazie Andrews. Kathryn joined the Urban Poets, a performing arts company, based out of her church, Mosaic. In addition to dancing, she was also invited to model in StagewearLAs 2009 costume catalog.In the latter part of 2009, Kathryn made her way onto the 6th season of "So You Think You Can Dance." Her impeccable work ethic, adaptability, and desire to touch the hearts and souls of America won her the honor of top female dancer for Season 6. Adam Shankman is a hands-on guy with a passion for dance, so it's not surprising that he was deep in the mix for the Academy Award dancer auditions. The producer's first big gig was as a dancer on the Oscar telecast 20 years ago, which is why choreographing the Academy Awards (along with all his other duties) was so important to him. Today's auditions were for union and non-union professionals who were proficient in Contemporary style. And, under black clouds and torrential rains, guys and girls showed up ready to have their butts whipped. Lots of familiar faces too, if you're a So You Think You Can Dance fan. Russell Ferguson was named Americas Favorite Dancer on So You Think You Can Dance Wednesday night. The win surprised a lot of people considering Ferguson, whose specialty is Krumping, hadnt trained in any of the traditional dance styles. But, win he did over the exceptionally well-trained Jakob Karr, who week after week dazzled the judges with his superiors skills and charismatic personality.
