The spirit of a woman by the name of Marian Rithcie haunts the Cross Keys, at times with a vengeance. Ed and Lorraine theorize her anger to arise from the fact that English people took over the business. Her anger has shown in many ways, sometimes causing injury to those in her path. Such examples include pulling a vacuum out of the hands of one of the staff members and throwing it over the banister. Another time Marian pushed the cook, an English man, down the stairs, breaking his leg. There have been repeated telling of glasses and bottles spontaneously smashing, breaking, and falling off the shelves. A local minister - a vicar -- tried to exorcise Marian's spirit from the home, only to leave the building and never return, so horrified by Marian's presence.
