March 2010 The Bagram Air Base is an American Oasis in the middle of the Afghan desert. Troops can shop, have a burger and even have a massage. But soon the mall will be shut down to make room for new troops. The Kabul we know from the news is a dusty, broken cityscapeBut just an hour's drive north, 20 000 US soldiers bask in the creature comforts of the Bagram Air Base. Gaudy signs offer Burger King, Harley Davidson and Karaoke, and you could easily forget youre in the middle of a war zone. For a lot of people, this is a slice of home, says Lieutenant Koczera, joining the long queue for Burger King. Hes grateful for the opportunity to get a souvenir for his loved ones, free from the constant fear of fire: going off the base is not the time to really shop. But with more American troops on the way, space is getting tight. The commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, General McChrystal, has ordered the more indulgent services to close. Many of the 4000 civilians from Russia, India, and Pakistan who work on the base face an uncertain future. They say if you are not Afghan, you are going to be closed, says one. McChrystal wants his soldiers focused on the main game now more than ever. And whilst the soldiers here admit that the shops are a bonus, they know theyre here to fight, not to shop. While watching Creature Comforts again recently, I couldn't help but think about O'Reilly's own blinking tarsier when the bit with the animated bush baby came around. So, in a few idle moments one evening, I decided to remix it into a speaking O'Reilly mascot, delivering at least part of our company's mission statement. Thanks to Daniel Steinberg for the audio (grabbed from the intro to his Distributing the Future podcast) and to Tim O'Reilly for being a good sport.

Creature Comforts was originally a 1989 British humorous animated short film about how animals feel about living in a zoo, featuring the voices of the British public "spoken" by the animals. It was created by Nick Park and Aardman Animations. The film later became the basis of a series of television advertisements for the UK Electricity Board, and in 2003 a television series in the same style was released. An American version of the series was also made. The original 5-minute film Creature Comforts was conceived and directed by Nick Park and produced by Aardman Animations featuring the voices of British non-actors in the same vein as the "man on the street" Vox Pop interviews. It was produced as part of a series called Lip Synch for Channel 4. The film won Nick Park the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1990. The film shows various animals in a zoo being interviewed about their living conditions. These include turtles, a female gorilla, a family of polar bears, and a melancholic Mountain Lion who complains about the "lack of space" and the "grass with pollen that gives me hay fever every day!" The dialogue was created by interviewing residents of a housing development, an old people's home and a family that lived in a local shop (the polar bears). Clay animation was then created that attributed the answers to zoo animals. One of the most popular characters was the Mountain Lion. 1965 Chevelle Creature Comforts Install Video V8TV
www.v8tvshow.com - Our 1965 Chevelle is designed to be a comfortable driver, so we're installing a load of things to make it a nice driver. In this video, we're installing a new floor shifter from OPGI into the original GM console we scored on eBay, followed by some slick Stewart Warner Performance Green Line gauges in a custom housing. Then it's a new Ididit tilt steering column, followed by a Detroit Speed power steering line set. Then a Detroit Speed delay wiper kit goes in, followed by a new OPGI Dash gauge surround and reproduction factory style tachometer. Then, we added some Hushmat sound and heat shielding to keep the noise down, and installed a Vintage Air A system to keep it cool in the car.
