Classic Game Room HD - COLECOVISION system review part 1

Part 1 of 2. Classic Game Room HD Hardware Review, Watch in High Definition! CGRHD reviews the ColecoVision from Coleco released in 1982. The Colecovision was an amazing game console (and still is) with a catalog of more than 125 video games release between 1982 and 1984. It rivals the NES in many ways and certainly handed the Atari 2600 its own ass with superior arcade conversions and action packed old school video games. For retro gamers today the Colecovision is stil highly enjoyable to play because of the quality of the video games available on it. Coleco didn't mess around, sure it's ugly, but it's awesome! Originallyt the Colecovision came packaged with Nintendo's Donkey Kong if you can believe that... Classic Game Room - MR. DO! for ColecoVision review

Classic Game Room reviews MR. DO! for ColecoVision from 1983. Originally released in the arcades in 1983 by Universal and published by Taito, Mr. Do! is very similar to Namco's classic Dig Dug but with some fundamental differences that make it rock. In Mr. Do you play as a clown armed with a fun-ball that you throw at enemies, once thrown it leaves you vulnerable until it comes back. Collect cherries in groups of 8 to score bonus points, drop apples on bad guys and collect letters to score an extra life. Similar to Dig Dug you are digging around in dirt and avoiding bad guys in tunnels as well as collecting various food items in the center of the screen, but the scoring is very different and the super-ball requires a different offensive strategy than one would use with a bike pump. Mr. Do! was ported to various game consoles including the Atari 2600, NES, Super Nintendo SNES and Neo Geo! The ColecoVision version is excellent and suffers a bit because of the Coleco controller but not enough to ruin the game. Visuals and audio are top notch as is the stunning gameplay. This CGR review of Mr. Do! has gameplay from Mr Do showing Mr. Do game play in HD from Colecovision where gaming review footage of Mr. Do! was recorded for this Mr. Do! video review on YouTube.

Classic Game Room HD - COLECOVISION CONTROLLER review

Classic Game Room reviews the Colecovision Controller for the Coleco Coleco Vision video game console. This old school controller may have the same plug as controllers for the Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis, but it is very different! Plug this into your Colecovision and use the keypad or joystick to play games like Gorf, Frogger and Defender. It feels like a remote control and has 2 buttons on the side like the Atari 7800 controller design. Only Classic Game Room reviews retro gaming accessories, controllers and hardware. Watch all of our video game controller reviews and equipment review shows. There are other alternatives to the Colecovision controller and we'll get into that in a future review. Classic Game Room HD - DONKEY KONG for ColecoVision review

Classic Game Room HD reviews DONKEY KONG for ColecoVision. This Coleco game from 1982 was actually packed in with the Coleco Vision game system for a while. Nintendo's Donkey Kong is one of the most famous and well loved video games of all time. How does the ColecoVision version of Donkey Kong compare to the arcade original and the Atari 2600 and Atari 7800 versions of Donkey Kong? Solid graphics and colors make the Coleco cartridge of DK look sharp and fun to play. The game suffers from some twitchy controls and a lackluster difficulty curve. This Donkey Kong review features gameplay footage from the video game being played showing how to play Donkey Kong on the Coleco. This is an easy game to collect today and remains a classic. Nintendo's Donkey Kong and Mario have now been featured in hundreds of games on primarily Nintendo produced game systems. Classic Game Room - ZAXXON review for ColecoVision

ZAXXON review. Classic Game Room reviews ZAXXON from Sega for the ColecoVision released in 1982. Zaxxon is one of the first videogames to use shadows and amazed its early 80's audience with a unique perspective as seen from above and to the side, a perspective that was almost impossible to capture in home console versions like the Atari 2600... but the Coleco Vision delivers! Originally released by Sega to the arcades in early 1982, Zaxxon is a thrilling old school space ship shooter with air and ground targets. You can pilot the space ship up and down as well as left and right to dodge a wide array of enemy missiles, laser beams, force fields and space ships! Classic Game Room HD - GORF for Colecovision

Classic Game Room HD reviews GORF for the Colecovision video game console. Gorf was released to the arcades in 1981 by Midway and this amazing port of the game found its way to the Colecovision in 1983. It is a unique arcade game, and certainly a unique old school retro home video game, because it plays like 4 games in one (the arcade was 5 in 1). And it all gels together very well, combining elements of Space Invaders, Galaxian, Galaga, Star Wars, Star Ship and modern SHMUPS. It's a top down arcade style 2D shooter, a 3D space warp experience and an end boss battle to the death, GORF has it all! GORF is also an acronym for Galactic Orbiting Robotic Force. In case you want to pull that shit out for a dinner party or something you can be like "What's up bitches, I see your knowledge of fine wine and raise you the meaning of GORF". Classic Game Room brings you reviews of classic games like GORF as well as the newest releases for PS3, Wii and Xbox 360. Classic Game Room HD - SLITHER for Colecovision

Classic Game Room HD reviews SLITHER for Colecovision. This game has a copyright of 1983 and plays a lot like Centipede or Millipede. It requires the Colecovision Roller Controller trackball and plays like a real arcade stand up machine. Graphics are above average for the early 80's, gameplay is awesome and Slither is a retro gamer classic for the ages. This old school game is from Century II. You play as a laser cannon or something resembling a gun turret. Your only mission is to survive as you eliminate wave after wave of enemy snakes, dinosaurs and pterodactyls. Watch out for bushes and rocks, shoot enemies above and below you. Collect bonus points and select your difficulty level. As far as Centipede clones go this may be the best. Classic Game Room reviews Slither for the CGRHD program and gives it two thumbs up. Always check back for daily Classic Game Room reviews of brand new games and old school classics. Classic Game Room HD - DEFENDER for Colecovision review

Classic Game Room HD reviews the iconic DEFENDER for the Colecovision video game console! This Defender review shows off the Eugene Jarvis masterpiece as it was released by Atarisoft for Coleco Vision. This game was originally a 1980 arcade hit from the masters at Midway. Regarded as one of the best games ever created, Defender is in many ways a very early SHMUP style horizontal shooter. It is different from most SHMUPS in many ways, but it does have a space ship, the space ship shoots things and those things happen to be aliens. Blast the evil landers before they kidnap humans and turn into mutants! Defender was released on numerous game platforms over the past 30 years (almost 30 years) like the Atari 2600, Playstation and Xbox Live Arcade XBLA. The game has staying power because of its fun and addictive gamplay and steep difficulty curve. Crush alien invaders like a maniac in DEFENDER and blast your way to a high score. Classic Game Room reviews the best new and retro video games, hardware, joysticks and equipment daily. If you are a retro gamer or old school video game enthusiast, you need to be watching CGRHD.

This is an entertaining Asteroids style game where you fend off waves of enemy vessels before they form a larger spaceship that shoots fire balls at you. Space Fury is pretty cool and this CGR review of Space Fury has gameplay footage from Space Fury from Sega for Colecovision. Classic Game Room HD - GYRUSS for ColecoVision review

Classic Game Room HD reviews GYRUSS for the ColecoVision. Gyruss from a 1983 arcade release from Konami and is a cross between a Space Invaders / Galaxian game and Atari's Tempest. Shoot enemies coming out from a vortex like thing (and from behind) while rotating your space ship around the "tube" a full 360 degrees. Gameplay is fast and frantic and very addicitive. Gyruss is also available for Atari 2600, Atari 5200 and Commodore 64. The Coleco Vision version of Gyruss is technically solid with excellent visuals, sounds and controls. This CGR review of Gyruss on ColecoVision has gameplay from Gyruss showing Gyrus old school game play in action.
