A memorial song for Shepp, a sweet German Shepherd starved to death on the end of a chain which was tightly embedded into the poor dog's neck. Shepp was rescued by animal protection services in Corpus Christi, USA, September 2008. Sadly Shepp lost his fight for life soon after he was rescued. We decided to write this song to help people understand the need for greater awareness and protection for chained dogs. This was the last chainable evolution on my "Shiny to go list" and now, I can finally proudly say that "I've chained all chainable pokemon including all evolutions. All positive. Tips for training given as you work through the process. Practice each step until your dog can do it correctly 8 out of 10 times in a row. When you add the next criteria, your dog should be successful 50% of the time. If she's not, you need to simplify something for her so she can be. You can use tugging to increase desire for the bumper between sessions if you use a different toy, not the bumper. This method works for natural retrieving breeds as well as non-natural retrievers such as Jessie. It allows you to retrain any part of the retrieve chain that your dog is not proficient with. Neal and Buster haven't seen each other in a long ten months. Buster, a cocker spaniel mix, and Neal had traveled together to Tennessee from Pennsylvania, but Neal had to ride the bus home, alone. He is in a wheelchair and unable to drive, so could not find anyone to bring him and Buster home together. He then suffered heart failure (odd, huh, maybe it was from missing Buster, who he describes as 'his only friend'?), Buster was chained outside by Neal's nephew (who pledged to care for him), and left with very little food, water, and no shelter. A long ten months later, Neal requests help from CPAA, and they coordinate with DDB to bring Buster home. What an amazing Happy Ending for Buster and Neal! Special thanks to DDB's Marie Belanger and CPAA's Zella Anderson and Mary Jo McClain for making it happen and for providing vet care for Buster. We just got news that Mr. Brooks, the man in this video, has passed away. When he said they would be separated "Only in Death," that came true only too quickly. The retrieve- I'm interested in service dog training, and want to start teaching Splash! to retrieve objects without mouthing them. She can fetch toys but this is different. I'm using back chaining- getting the last part of the behavior sequence first- her presenting the object to me. To be continued. We've also been practicing attention heeling at different speeds and drop in heel at a run. Agility- I usually work with Splash with the Jumps laying on the ground, so she doesn't jar her growing body, but put them off the ground to film. Hence she knocked them down. ;) (Splash and Kiko have been trained and brought up with no corrections, reprimands, 'no's or 'eh ehs'.)
