Guillaume Lekeu - Fantaisie sur deux airs populaires angevins (1893)

Fantaisie sur deux airs populaires angevins (1893) The last completed orchestral work by Belgian composer Guillaume Lekeu (1870-1894). This piece is based on two melodies that Lekeu overheard a guest whistling at a reception for the Lekeu family at Angers between the dessert and cheese courses. These melodies interested the composer, who quickly transcribed them and reworked them into their present form as a symphonic fantasy. Lekeu's mentor Vincent d'Indy later championed this work. Conductor: Pierre Bartholomée Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège
