From the Beautiful Cowichan Valley and surrounding areas, Jane's Way are a group of talented musicians whose renditions of Celtic jigs and reels will have your feet dancing, and whose original songs will have you appreciate Life on Earth even more. The band came about when mandolin player Andy Cooper, having newly arrived to the Valley in 2004 heard flute and tin whistle player Jane Way at the local Farmer's Market, and asked her if she might like to get together sometime? Pretty much the same day, singer-songwriter guitarist extraordinaire Paul Ruszel asked Jane if she would like a guitar player (Jane immediately thought "YES! I thought you would NEVER ask!") What began was a musical relationship that has evolved into a true path of musical magic. The band's name came about when most of the band members were there, with the exception of Jane. A democratic vote was cast, and even though Jane had no input at the time, she has excepted it with honour. The group are Jane Way on flute, tin whistle and accordion, whose classical training easily crossed over to this music Andy Cooper on mandolin who can pick ethereal harmonies out of the air, as well as sing, play guitar, and occasional bagpipes Paul Ruszel, whose guitar sings with his love for music and whose songs will open your heart. Ugly Duckling is a hip hop group that formed in 1993 in Long Beach, California. Ugly Duckling's members are Dizzy Dustin, Young Einstein and Andy Cooper. The group's style is alternative hip hop, influenced especially by old school performers such as the Native Tongues. Most of their songs follow the creed that hip hop is about having fun and often mock the clichéd gangsta emcees who dominate the mainstream. An example of this can be heard in the song "A Little Samba" and in "Smack," in which they rhyme about the enormous wealth about which mainstream emcees brag, and the ridiculous nature of their possessions, such as gold name plates on their cars, pet sharks, and jetting off to Bermuda on private planes
