"Firecracker" (by YMO) - played on an ARP Axxe
I recorded this two years ago using only analogue equipment. The audio is entirely digital-free, except for the transfer to PC and YouTube's compression. No sequencing here! I reluctantly sold the Axxe earlier this year (but she's gone to a good home!), so I dug out this old recording and added some very silly images for a quick video to put on YouTube as a tribute to this great beast of a machine. All parts played on an ARP Axxe monoophonic analogue synthesizer All effects from an Electro-Harmonix Memory Man delay pedal Recorded and mixed on a TASCAM Portastudio 414 mkII 4-track cassette deck "Firecracker" performed by James Cronin, written by Martin Denny, based on the cover by Yellow Magic Orchestra.
ARP AXXE + minimoog
The AXXE is a very cool little synth and I would say that it complements the minimoog well. It has things the minimoog does not like 'sample and hold' and ADSR control over the OSC, not to mention keyboard repeat which is tied to the main LFO clock. This video shows the first time I got to noodle around with the two synths. I ran the main audio out from the minimoog into the AXXE audio in which really just goes into the filter just like the minimoog. You can still hear some weirdness with the AXXE but I am close to getting it all tightened up. The AXXE belongs to Mike Johnston who recently acquired it and asked me if I could work on it and cure some of its weird behavior. I was not sure I could fix it but I told him I would take a look because I have never had the pleasure to fool with an ARP synth. The sounds in this video are all just a minimoog and the ARP AXXE shown. A little delay was added to the recording later to sweeten up the sound. Again I would like to thank Andrew Cortens for use of the minimoog, and Mike Johnston for letting me make a vidie with his ARP.

Arp Axxe Self-Oscillation
The filter on the Arp Axxe has the ability to self-oscillate, and act like an independent oscillator, producing a clear sine wave tone. While this is a very simple sound, it is also very appealing. I used a vintage Roland spring reverb on Arp Axxe as well. Posted by Wayne Scott Joness

My Arp Axxe..... 1976 vintage !! this is a first generation Axxe with wooden side pannels and rotary pitch bend. Not exactly mint condition but not bad for a 33 year old instrument ! First we have a resonating filter sweep followed by a tweeked bass line and finishing off with reverbed electro drums.... popular in electro records around 1982-83 :-D watch this space for more over the next couple of weeks .....

Any analogue synth with a noise generator and a semi-decent filter is great for making spaceship noises. The AXXE is no exception. My friend Stephen has had an idea about doing a short sci-fi film about ghosts in space (no not Space Ghost). If he an I ever get the film made I hope it has campy sounds like this.

My Arp Axxe is revived
peterdyer.net This Arp Axxe (v.1) was in sore shape when i recieved it as a generous gift. After some work from synthesizerrepair.com its sounding great. It has a single VCO with two waveforms (saw, square) freely mixable, one vcf, and one LFO. Single envelope routable to pitch or filter, and a S/H as well. Here i go through its basic functions, and then add a Moogerfooger Freqbox (MF-107), with the CV out from the Axxe, for a second tunable VCO. Works pretty well. The chords at 0:27 are from a Roland OS9. Played through a Boss RV-5 reverb, MXR-169 analog delay, and a Boss CE-5 Chorus/Ensemble.

This is my vintage metal axxe wraith in blood red finish. it has a licensed floyd rose trem with wilkinson pick-ups and wilkinson stock tuners. i think it was £256 brand new and it plays really nice but i need to restring it but im having a bit of trouble so if any one has any advice please leave a comment below :)
