Three giant puppets hit the streets of Liverpool again as part of a weekend-long street theatre production inspired by the sinking of the Titanic. A 30ft (9m) wooden marionette of a little girl walked through the north of the city with her dog, papier mache puppet Xolo on Friday. While a 50ft (15m) puppet of her uncle later emerged from Salthouse Dock and set off through the city centre. More than 250000 people are expected to attend the Sea Odyssey event. The little girl and her dog are due to be craned onto a boat at 09.30 BST from Kings Dock before a tour of the city. Her uncle is due to leave Stanley Park at 11.00 BST. It has been created by Nantes-based French company Royal de Luxe as part of Liverpool commemorations for the recent 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. It was inspired by a letter written by a young girl to her father, who was a steward on the Liverpool-registered liner. The event will show the girl, called Little Girl Giant, walking around Liverpool on a quest to learn news of her father. The puppets will roam across the city separately over the weekend, covering some 23 miles (37km), before meeting up on Saturday night and sailing down the River Mersey together on Sunday. They are made from poplar, lime wood and steel, have eyes made from street lights and hair made from horse hair. The dog puppet is made from steel and papier mache, and is 30ft (9m) tall. Thievery Corporation is a Washington, DC-based recording artist and DJ duo consisting of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton and their supporting artists. Their music style mixes elements of dub, acid jazz, Indian classical and Brazilian (such as bossa nova) with a lounge aesthetic. Thievery Corporation is on the Eighteenth Street Lounge record label named after the DC club owned by Eric Hilton, but several of their singles and EPs appear on the 4AD and !K7 labels. Formed in the summer of 1995 at DCs Eighteenth Street Lounge. Rob Garza and Lounge co-owner Eric Hilton bonded over club life, dub, bossa nova and jazz records, then decided to see what would come of mixing all these in a recording studio. From this, the duo was born and their self started label Eighteenth Street Lounge Music began to emerge on an international level. The duo caught the ears of underground DJs with their first two 12 offerings, Shaolin Satellite and 2001: a Spliff Odyssey and with their 1997 debut LP, Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi, they had already begun to define a new genre of electronic music and connect with an international community of like-minded souls.
