Rush 2112 Discovery/Presentation Guitar-Alex Lifeson Bass/Vocals-Geddy Lee Drums-Neil Peart The Protagonist The third section, "Discovery", introduces the main character who finds a guitar in a remote cave behind a waterfall. Alex Lifeson builds up from simple open string guitar playing into increasingly complex patterns and chords, showing the man's progress as he teaches himself to play the guitar. Printed on the album were the lyrics "Chords that build high like a mountain" and Geddy sang it this way for the 1996 live album, but the original lyrics were the same way as recorded, with the word "sounds" instead of "chords" Confident that the Priests will be impressed with his discovery, he brings the guitar before them in part four, "Presentation". One of the first riffs I learned was the single-note section after the intro staccato from RUSH's 2112 Overture, so when I wanted to teach my dogs how to sing I used that riff as supporting stimuli. Well, dogs being as smart as they are with repetition, over time they began to sing to the BEGINNING of the song because they learned it would always precede the intended stimuli. Soon, they were singing along to the CD without me even playing guitar!! I can be cruising down the road and not say a thing and if this song comes on they go off by themselves as you see here and the same thing happens at home and during cool demonstrations for other RUSH fans.
