Warren Zevon Just Passed Away - Paul and David announced the sad new! Very Moving!

Paul Shaffer and David Letterman talk about their great friendship with Warren Zevon, the incredible songwriter he was, their difficulty to admit that he passed away, with his last interview in which Warren spoke of his illness, of death and performed a very moving "Mutineer"! RIP Mr Warren William ZEVON

Warren Zevon - Don't Let Us Get Sick

Warren Zevon performing "Don't Let Us Get Sick" at Nashville's Bluebird Cafe on 10-13-96. Mitch Albom wrote about this song in his column following Warren's passing calling it "a plaintive prayer". It's every bit of that. Warren was wise and learned from his tribulations about the things that matter most in life, and those things are reflected plainly and simply in this song.

Warren Zevon - Hit Somebody - The Hockey Song

Warren Zevon - Hit Somebody - The Hockey Song. Live December 2, 2000 from the Theater of the Living Arts, Philadelphia PA. Certainly the funniest song about hockey ever written. Of course it's only alegorically about hockey. It's really about not "remembering your role" but instead seeking that "flashing red light"...whatever that might be for you. That's why Buddy is perhaps Warren Zevon's greatest hero ever. Hope you enjoy.

Warren Zevon - Hit Somebody ( The Hockey Song) - David Letterman Show, 2002 (HD)

Warren Zevon & his son Jordan Live on the Late Show with David Letterman 2002. "Hit Somebody! (The Hockey Song)" is a song on Warren Zevon's 2002 album, My Ride's Here. It was written by Zevon and Mitch Albom. The repeated line of "hit somebody!" is said by long time friend of Zevon and television host David Letterman. It is one of Zevon's longest songs. He was born in Big Beaver by the borderline He started playing hockey by the time he was nine His dad took the hose and froze the back yard And Little Buddy dreamed he was Rocket Richard He grew up big and he grew up tough He saw himself scoring for the Wings or Canucks But he wasn't that good with a puck Buddy's real talent was beating people up His heart wasn't in it but the crowd ate it up Through pee-wee's and juniors, midgets and mites He must have racked up more than three hundred fights A scout from the flames came down from Saskatoon Said, "There's always room on our team for a goon Son, we've always got room for a goon" There were Swedes to the left of him Russians to the right A Czech at the blue line looking for a fight Brains over brawn--that might work for you But what's a Canadian farm boy to do? What else can a farm boy from Canada do? But what's a Canadian farm boy to do? What else can a farm boy from Canada do? Hit somebody! was what the crowd roared When Buddy the goon came over the boards "Coach," he'd say, "I wanna score goals" The coach said, "Buddy, remember your role, The fast guys get paid, they ...

Desperados Under The Eaves - Warren Zevon and Jackson Browne

This is probably my favourite Warren Zevon song and this is the best version I have heard of it. The orchestrated album version is very good but this has a more real live feel. Recorded in 1976 with Jackson Browne and a sparse piano accompaniment. The portrayal of a mind on the edge hearing hymns in the air-conditioning hum is a moment of genius. Warren Zevon died in 2003 but left us marvellous songs that will go on being great for all time.
Warren Zevon - Mohammed's Radio - 1976

www.cinefear.com - Here is some ultra rare footage of Warren Zevon performing his classic Mohammad's Radio with Jackson Browne. Aired in 1976, Browne was the focus of the program but Zevon was touring with him and hence Browne spotlights this incredible talent. Warren Zevon Classic - Mohammed's Radio

Mohammed's Radio: Everybody's restless and they've got no place to go Someone's always trying to tell them Something they already know So their anger and resentment flow But don't it make you want to rock and roll All night long Mohammed's Radio I heard somebody singing sweet and soulful On the radio, Mohammed's Radio You know, the Sheriff's got his problems too He will surely take them out on you In walked the village idiot and his face was all aglow He's been up all night listening to Mohammed's Radio Don't it make you want to rock and roll All night long Mohammed's Radio I heard somebody singing sweet and soulful On the radio, Mohammed's Radio Everybody's desperate trying to make ends meet Work all day, still can't pay the price of gasoline and meat Alas, their lives are incomplete Don't it make you want to rock and roll All night long Mohammed's Radio I heard somebody singing sweet and soulful On the radio, Mohammed's Radio You've been up all night listening for his drum Hoping that the righteous might just might just might just come I heard the General whisper to his aide-de-camp "Be watchful for Mohammed's lamp" Don't it make you want to rock and roll All night long Mohammed's Radio
Warren Zevon - Veracruz

From the album Excitable Boy. A song about the American invasion of Veracruz, Mexico in 1914 in an attempt to control the results of the Mexican revolution. Lyrics to Veracruz : By Warren Zevon and Jorge Calderon I heard Woodrow Wilson's guns I heard Maria crying Late last night I heard the news That Veracruz was dying Veracruz was dying Someone called Maria's name I swear it was my father's voice Saying, "If you stay you'll all be slain You must leave now - you have no choice Take the servants and ride west Keep the child close to your chest When the American troops withdraw Let Zapata take the rest" I heard Woodrow Wilson's guns I heard Maria calling Saying, "Veracruz is dying And Cuernavaca's falling" Aquel dia yo jure (On that day I swore) Hacia el puerto volvere (To the port I will return) Aunque el destino cambio mi vida (Even though destiny changed my life) En Veracruz morire (In Veracruz I shall die) Aquel dia yo jure (On that day I swore) I heard Woodrow Wilson's guns I heard them in the harbor Saying, "Veracruz is dying" By Warren Zevon and Jorge Calderon I heard Woodrow Wilson's guns I heard Maria crying Late last night I heard the news That Veracruz was dying Veracruz was dying Someone called Maria's name I swear it was my father's voice Saying, "If you stay you'll all be slain You must leave now - you have no choice Take the servants and ride west Keep the child close to your chest When the American troops withdraw Let Zapata take the rest" I heard Woodrow ...

Warren Zevon - Play It All Night Long (Live 1994)

"Play It All Night Long" by Warren Zevon. Recorded at the Wheeler Opera House, June 3 1994. Originally from the album 'Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School' (1980). The rest of this concert (and at least one other Zevon gig) is available free here: www.archive.org A great many bands have live shows available on that site; I recommend the Secret Chiefs 3 and Soul Coughing gigs. Sorry about the extended silence after the song, don't know what happened there.

Carmelita, by: Warren Zevon

one of my favorite country songs I know that the pictures and audio are out of sync, its cause windows vista is retarded and isnt good at starting and stopping audio constantly while im editing the video, making it virtually impossible for my to sync the pictures changing with the lyrics. I might re-make this when my Windows 7 upgrade disk comes in. lyrics: I hear Mariachi static on my radio And the tubes they glow in the dark And I'm there with her in Ensenada And I'm here in Echo Park Carmelita hold me tighter I think I'm sinking down And I'm all strung out on heroin On the outskirts of town Well, I'm sittin' here playing solitaire With my pearl-handled deck The county won't give me no more methadone And they cut off your welfare check Carmelita hold me tighter I think I'm sinking down And I'm all strung out on heroin On the outskirts of town Well, I pawned my Smith Corona And I went to meet my man He hangs out down on Alvarado Street By the Pioneer chicken stand Carmelita hold me tighter I think I'm sinking down And I'm all strung out on heroin On the outskirts of town Carmelita hold me tighter I think I'm sinking down And I'm all strung out on heroin
Warren Zevon "Play It All Night Long"

Warren Zevon performing "Play It All Night Long" at The Theatre of the Living Arts, Philadelphia, PA on March 17, 2000. A wonderful 8 minute solo performance. Warren uses a few effects to play multiple instruments simultaneously. The song contains one of the most shocking verses you'll ever hear (2nd verse) but I like and have always respected the final, determined, resolved view of the final line in that verse. Listen. Let me know what you think.
