Betty's Basic Yellow Cake (Used in 1000th Video)


In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Basic Yellow Cake. This is a moist, rich cake. Ingredients: 1 cup butter, softened 2 cups sugar 4 eggs 3 cups all purpose flour 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder ½ teaspoon salt 1 cup milk 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract Beat 1 cup butter with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Gradually add 2 cups sugar, continuing to beat with an electric mixer, until all sugar is incorporated into the mixture. Add 4 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine 3 cups flour, 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder, and ½ teaspoon salt. Add flour mixture to beaten mixture alternately with 1 cup milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix with a large spoon after each addition. Stir in 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla. For a 3-layer cake, pour batter into 3 greased and floured (or sprayed) 9-inch round cake pans and bake at 375 degrees (F) for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean. For a rectangular cake, pour batter into a greased and floured (or sprayed) 11-inch by 15-inch baking dish. (I used a 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish, but it was small for the amount of cake batter and therefore took a long time to cook.) Allow cake to cool in pan (or pans) for 10 minutes. Then cool completely on a wire rack. When cake is thoroughly cooled, use a knife to even up cake layers and then frost, if desired. In this video, uranium is concentrated from its ore through a series of precipitations, which eventually yields a form of yellowcake, uranyl peroxide. Please remember to take proper precautions when working with a radioactive heavy metal such as uranium and its salts. Gloves, eye protection, and a dust mask are necessary. For processing, uranium ore is dissolved into hydrochloric acid, oxidized with bleach, precipitated with ammonia, filtered, leached with carbonate, filtered, neutralized with hydrochloric acid, precipitated with hydrogen peroxide, and filtered. The uranium produced by this procedure could in no way be considered weapons-grade or enriched. The enrichment process requires millions of dollars in investment and is impossible for any entity short of a national government to produce. Betty's Rich Vanilla Frosting (Used on Yellow Cake in 1000th Video)


In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Rich Vanilla Frosting. This is the frosting that was used on our 1000th video yellow cake. This demonstration also shows you how to customize your cake with an image of your choice. Ingredients: 1 cup vanilla baking chips ½ cup half-and-half (This is half milk, half cream.) 1 cup butter 2 ½ cups confectioner's sugar (This is the same a powdered sugar/icing sugar.) Combine 1 cup vanilla baking chips, ½ cup half-and-half, and 1 cup butter in a double boiler or saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until melted and smooth. Remove from heat. Stir in 2 ½ cups confectioner's sugar. Set double boiler or saucepan in ice. Beat at medium speed of an electric mixer, until frosting is of spreading consistency. This amount of frosting will easily frost a typical rectangular cake. For a layer cake, you may want to double the recipe or make two separate recipes of frosting. You may customize your cake while the frosting is still soft, by topping it with a decorative sugar layer. Put your chosen image on disk and get a print of it. Take the print to the cake decorating department of your supermarket. (I went to Meijer.) I was able to get them to create only the sugar sheet, but your supermarket may require that you buy the cake and have it iced there, where they will bake and decorate your cake with your chosen design. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely. * Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, melt butter. Stir in brown sugar. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cook and stir for two minutes. Stir in milk. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Cool to lukewarm. Gradually stir in confectioners' sugar. Place pan in a bowl of ice water; stir until mixture reaches desired spreading consistency. Spread frosting over top of cake. STOP PRESS - it was announced on 28 April 2011 that 'Farewell to Stromness' will be played at the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on 29 April. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As of 11 February 2009, 'Farewell to Stromness' had been recorded several times here on YouTube in aseveral different instrumentations, but as far as I could tell no-one had uploaded its companion piece 'Yesnaby Ground', so here they are together. Sir Peter Maxwell Davies (1934-) is one of Britain's leading composers, and from 2004, Master of the Queen's Music. He wrote and premiered himself these two piano interludes for a cabaret-style revue ('The Yellow Cake Revue') given at the St Magnus Festival, Orkney in June 1980. The composer lives in Orkney, and Stromness and Yesnaby are two locations then under threat from a proposed mine (a threat which has been lifted in the short term). 4 cups+2Tbsp. sifted then measured cake flour, 2 tsp. baking powder,1.5 tsp.baking soda,1 tsp salt,1 cup unsalted butter softened,1 tsp. vanilla extract, 2 cups sugar. Mix well and store in refridgeratorup to 2 months or freezer up to 6 months. to use bring to room temp. add 4 large eggs room temp.and 2 cups buttermilk. bake 350 35-40minutes.

( For the Yellow Cake) 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature 2 cups sugar 4 eggs separated 1 cup cornstarch 2 cups flour 1 tbsp baking powder 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 cup milk Preheat oven to 180°C/ 350°. Butter two 20cm/ 9-inch round pans with butter, and dust with flour. In a large bowl, sift together the cornstarch, flour and baking powder. Set aside. Beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Set aside. With an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the yolks, one by one, and the vanilla, and beat well after each addition. Add the flour mixture in three additions, alternating with the milk. Finish with the flour. Beat until smooth. Add the egg whites and fold in the batter gently. Divide the batter between the pans and bake for 35 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick inserted in the cakes comes out clean. Let cool over a wire rack completely to unmold. To make filling: 1 Large Can Pumpkin Pie Filling 2/3 cups milk 2 eggs Mix together with whisk and pour over crust. For Topping: 1 Cup (reserved) Yellow Cake Mix 1/2 cup Sugar 1/4 cup Flour 1 tsp. Cinnamon 4 Tablespoons Butter 1/2 cup chopped nuts Mix cake mix, sugar, flour and cinnamon. Cut in butter with pastry blender or two knives. You want to make a crumb mixture. Spread over filling. In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make a Gooey Butter Cake. This cake originated in St. Louis, Missouri. It is very easy to make, particularly with the use of a packaged cake mix. If you are looking for an easy, great-tasting cake for Easter, this might be it! Ingredients: 18.25-ounce package yellow cake mix 1 egg 1 stick butter (1/2 cup), melted and cooled 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened 2 additional eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 additional stick butter (1/2 cup), melted and cooled 16-ounce box confectioner's sugar (powdered sugar or icing sugar) cooking oil spray In a mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, 1 egg, and 1 stick melted butter. Ingredients for the Punch Bowl Cake- 1 - box of yellow cake mix 1 and 1/2 cups of Pecans 1 - 5.1 oz. box of Instant Vanilla Pudding 1 - 20 oz. can of Crushed Pineapples 1 - 20 oz can of Cherry Pie Filling 2 - 8 oz. bowls of Cool Whip Prepare cake mix as directed. Prepare pudding as directed. When the cake is room temperature and the pudding is cold start layering your cake. First layer is half of the yellow cake Second layer is half of the can of cherry pie filling Third layer is half of the jello instant pudding Fourth layer is half of the pineapples Fifth layer is one bowl of cool whip Sixth layer is 3/4 cup of pecans Do all six layers again ending with pecans. Let cake get cold in the fridge and enjoy. You can make many variations of this cake. Be creative and have fun! Hugs Everybody!

Here's the video that I saw a long time ago, lots of good tips in it: www.youtube.com They were also the reason I started piping flowers right on my cakes :D Hubby was reading an ad about a 7up pound cake and I thought it sounded good. I have a friend who also made a 7up cake and said it was really tasty so I thought I would try it. All I did was swap out the milk for 7up in my yellow cake recipe (it's posted, see link above). The cake didn't seem any different from the lemon cake I make (same yellow cake recipe but with lemon extract and zest) so I probably won't make it again. I also increased the amount of butter in my buttercream, just to see what it would be like to work with a non-crusting buttercream. Enh, don't really like it. My frosting tasted good but I don't like the extra butter in it, too much like eating a stick of butter. lol-don't get me wrong, I love butter, but this doesn't appeal to me. Plus I really don't like trying to smooth it. I had to resort to the hot spatula method (dip the spatula in hot water, wipe it, then run it across the cake). Now before anyone tells me how it should be done, let me say this wasn't my first try, I use the Viva method because it's my favorite of the methods I've tried. Our "k-drama" inspired cooking video to win a chance to visit Seoul, South Korea! Participants: Krystal Diamond & Holly Walker from Atlanta, GA --USA Ingredients for Gyeongdan: -1 cup of sweet rice flour -1 cup of water -1/2 teaspoon of salt -2 tablespoons of sugar (optional) -1/3 cup of walnuts -1 box of yellow cake mix -honey Directions: -Mix 1 cup of sweet rice flour, salt and sugar into bowl -Stir in 1 cup of water, mixing well -Cover bowl and microwave for 3 minutes on high -Meanwhile crush walnuts in plastic bag with fork/knife -Remove dough from microwave, knead dough with fork for at least 5 minutes -Bake yellow cake -Remove brown part from cake -Crumble only 1/2 of cake with fingers -Add in walnuts to dough and mix -Mix a cup of water with a pinch of salt to help you work with sticky dough -Roll dough into small balls -Roll dough balls into honey then into cake crumbs *You can add other flavors onto your cake ball according to your personal taste; such as powder sugar and frosting* --To liven up any get together or event you can decorate the Sweet Sticky Rice Cakes to entertain your friends and family.-- ENJOY! -- Critique-- These are very simple and quick to make and the ingreidents can be find at most supermarkets. Betty's Checkmate Chess Bars Recipe


In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make her crunchy, chewy, delightful Chess Bars. They are very pretty, sprinkled with confectioner's sugar on top, and can be used as a finger food or formal dessert. They are scrumptious! Ingredients: 1 stick butter or margarine, melted 1 egg, well beaten, plus 2 more eggs, well beaten 1 box yellow cake mix 16 oz. box confectioner's sugar 8 oz. cream cheese, softened In a large mixing bowl, mix 1 well-beaten egg with 1 box yellow cake mix, and 1 stick of melted butter or margarine. When it makes a dough, move it to a 13-inch by 9-inch by 2-inch Pyrex dish, and use your hands to spread it evenly over the bottom. Now, make the filling. In a large mixing bowl, add 2 well-beaten eggs, a 16 oz. box of confectioner's sugar, and 8 oz. cream cheese (softened). Mix well, until all lumps of cream cheese and confectioner's sugar are gone. Now, pour this filling over the crust in the Pyrex dish. Bake in an oven that has been preheated to 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cool to room temperature, and then cut into bars or squares, as desired. While the dish is cooling, sprinkle a little confectioner's sugar over the top for looks and flavor. Yum! You will like it!!!
