The Carlton on Madison Avenue - New York City - on Voyage.tv

Set apart from Manhattans pervasive bustle, the Madison Square Park district is home to the newly restored Carlton on Madison. Boasting quietly luxurious accommodations, this New York hotel provides business travelers swift access to the midtown corporate world and the eclectic dining and shopping options in Chelsea and the Fashion District. The Carltons restaurant and upgraded guest rooms and suites mirror the neighborhood itself: understated and classy. Standing out amid the office buildings and small shops in the surrounding Gramercy Park and Murray Hill neighborhoods, the Carlton features a stately lobby with vaulted ceiling. The 12-story Beaux-Arts building, opened in 1904 as the Seville Hotel, is just four blocks from Madison Square Park and sees both leisure and business travelers pass through its 317 elegant rooms, all with street or courtyard views. Guest rooms feature gleaming marble bathrooms, plush linens and custom-made furniture. All the comforts of a home office are included, as are special touches, like iPod docking stations and leather desk chairs. The Carlton has standard and executive rooms, as well as Deluxe and Empire Suites with separate parlors and views of the Empire State Building. Stocked mini bars and flat-screen televisions are found in every room, and the entire hotel has free wireless Internet access. On-site restaurant Country is led by chef Geoffrey Zakarian, who has worked in such renowned New York restaurants as Le Cirque and 21 Club ...

1. Who Invented Beauty -- Madison Avenue or Charles Darwin?

Presented by Elisabeth Cornwell, Ph.D. Executive Director of the US branch of the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science (RDFRS) Part 1 of a 2-part talk. Is beauty created by Madison Avenue ad men (and women), or is beauty a human universal as evolutionary psychologists argue? If it is a human universal — why? What are the adaptive advantages to clear skin, a shapely figure. Are there signals specific to what women want as opposed to what men want? Why do men and women differ in what they find attractive? What do they find similarly attractive? By looking at humans through the Darwinian lens of sexual selection, you will never look at another advertisement the same way again. Dr. R. Elisabeth 'Liz' Cornwell, Ph.D., is the first Executive Director of the US branch of the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science (RDFRS). She also has years of experience as a businesswoman, working in marketing and sales in the semiconductor industry in California. She decided, in her forties, to go back to university to do a doctorate in psychology, at the University of St Andrews, in Scotland. An evolutionary psychologist, her research has examined the underlying mechanisms of human mate selection, looking at such factors as hormones, pheromones, aging, asymmetry, and facial features. More recently she has been doing research at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, exploring the relationship of various psychological traits to religious belief, across the ...

Menelik Vs. Madison Avenue: Tribute to Pino D'Angio

The disco hit "Ma Quale Idea" performed by Pino D'Angio (Giuseppe Chierchia) was based on "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" originally performed by McFadden & Whitehead, and later by Risco Connection. It was sampled in Nose Feat. Menelik "Quelle Aventure" in 1995 and in "Don't Call Me Baby" by Madison Avenue in 2000. I decided to mix the instrumental of both. I also used acapellas by Wally Lopez ("Disco Night") and India (from Nuyorican Soul). I hope you will get funky enough. :)
